Tango Area
Tango is located in the north of Kyoto Prefecture with the Tango Peninsula as the central part, surrounded by ocean and rich nature. There are destinations for excellent sightseeing, including Amanohashidate, one of the top three sights in Japan. Many tales such as the Lengend of Tango Nanahime and the Legend of Urashima Taro have been handed down from generation to generation in this mysterious area.

Hikari-no-yu

Amanohashidate
This beautiful sand spit, one of the three best sights in Japan, connects the north and the south side of Miyazu Bay and divides the bay in half. There are about 8,000 pine trees in its total length of 3.6 km, and it looks like a bridge spanning the bay. Visitors can take a walk through the pine grove.

Old Residence of Mikami Family
This is an old residence of a wealthy merchant who flourished in Edo era, and it is open to the public. The large-scale merchant house with large walls consists of the main building, brewery cellar, and more. The building has been designated nationally as an important cultural asset.

Kotohiki Beach
The beach remains in natural condition without any seawalls or concrete constructions. In Heisei 19 (2007), the beach was designated as a national natural monument and a place of scenic beauty. It is also famous for "Naki-suna" as the sand makes sounds when people walk on it.

The Head Family of Wealthy Merchant Inaba
This is a premise of a wealthy merchant who made a fortune from coastal trading by managing a shipping agency in Kumihama. It is said that he was a vassal of Nobunaga Oda and a descendant of Inaba Family in Mino. Visitors can have a meal and experiences such as making ceramics.

Forest Park Swiss Village

Funaya (Boathouses) of Ine
The first floor is a room for boats and the second floor is a residence. Ine Town still has such unique boathouses on the streets. There are 230 boathouses on the surface of the sea along the 5 km circumference of the bay. The town became famous from the movie "Otoko wa Tsurai yo. Torajiro, Ajisai no Koi."

Land of Legends
In Ine Town, there is the Legend of Jofuku who came to this town for a miraculous medicine of immortality under the orders of Qin Shi Huang in the early Yayoi period (300 B.C. - 250 A.D.) and the Legend of Urashima that is the oldest legend in Japan. Niisaki-jinja Shrine and Urashima-jinja Shrine are places that are famous in connection with those legends.

Ouchi Toge Ichijikan Park
This park has a grand sight of Amanohashidate, one of the three best sceneries in Japan, on a horizontal line. Many literary figures such as Buson Yosa, Hiroshi (Tekkan) and Akiko Yosano, and more have loved the beautiful sight. The park is famous for spring cherry blossoms and colorful autumn foliage. They hold a Fall Foliage Festival every year.

The Chirimen Highway (Old Residence of Bitoh Family)
This area had prospered with chirimen silk industry from Edo era (1603-1867) to the early Showa era (1926-1989). Merchant houses, clinics, and banks of those days still remain. The old Bitoh familyユs residence built in the end of Edo era has been designated as a cultural asset of Kyoto Prefecture and it is opened to the general public.
